The Indian men’s hockey team will compete against Spain for the bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics on Thursday at the Yves-du-Manoir Stadium in Colombes.

Ranked fifth in the world, India narrowly lost 3-2 to world No. 2 Germany in the semi-finals on Tuesday. Skipper Harmanpreet Singh and Sukhjeet Singh scored for India, but Marco Miltkau’s late goal secured Germany’s spot in the gold medal match against the Netherlands. India will now vie for the bronze for the second consecutive Olympics.
In the group stage, India finished second with three wins and a draw from five matches. In the quarter-finals, India overcame Great Britain in a shootout despite being down to 10 men for the first 20 minutes. Harmanpreet Singh, with his goal in the semi-final, is the leading goal-scorer of the tournament with eight goals.
Spain, ranked eighth, had a disappointing semi-final, losing 4-0 to the Netherlands. They had previously defeated defending champions Belgium 3-2 in the quarter-finals and finished fourth in the group stage with two wins from five matches.
The gold medal match between Germany and the Netherlands will be played later in the day.

Since the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, India and Spain have faced each other in nine matches across various tournaments, with India emerging victorious in five of those encounters. Notably, two of these wins were achieved via shootouts.
Earlier this year, India and Spain met twice in the FIH Pro League. India secured a 4-1 win in the first match and won the second match in a shootout.
Historically, the Indian men’s hockey team has secured 12 Olympic medals – eight gold, one silver, and three bronze. In contrast, Spain has won four Olympic medals – three silver and one bronze.
